California Earthquake Rattles Los Angeles, Felt Hundreds of Miles Away

Magnitude 4.4 Quake Strikes Near El Sereno, Aftershock Felt as Far as San Diego

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake centered in the El Sereno neighborhood of Los Angeles rattled the city and its surroundings on Monday afternoon. The quake struck at 3:50 PM PT, followed by a 2.1-magnitude aftershock less than two minutes later. The shaking was felt over a wide area, including Bakersfield, San Diego, and Joshua Tree, which are more than 100 miles away.

The earthquake caused some minor damage in Los Angeles, including cracked sidewalks and fallen objects. No injuries have been reported.

The Los Angeles Fire Department received several calls about the shaking, but there were no major incidents. The Los Angeles Police Department reported no serious traffic accidents related to the earthquake.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the intersection of Huntington Drive and Soto Street in El Sereno. The quake occurred on the Puente Hills Fault, which is a relatively small fault that runs through the Los Angeles Basin.

Scientists are still studying the earthquake and its aftershocks. It is possible that there could be more aftershocks in the coming days or even weeks.

Residents who felt the earthquake are advised to be prepared for aftershocks. They should also check their homes and businesses for any damage.
