India's Election Results: Vote Counting Begins

ECI Begins Count of Over 600 Million Votes

After 44 days of an election across seven phases, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has begun its count of more than 600 million votes. The electronic voting machines (EVMs), which have been stored at heavily-guarded centers since polling day in different constituencies, will be opened and votes will be counted to decide who will form India's next government. Hundreds of millions of people took part in the world's biggest ever election, and results are expected throughout the day.
