The Freedom to Vote Act (FTVA) has emerged as a crucial legislative response to the surge in restrictive voting measures implemented in various states. Following the introduction of restrictive bills in 43 states and their passage in 18 states during 2021, FTVA aims to safeguard voter registration, ensure voting access, enhance election integrity and security, address redistricting, and reform campaign finance.

History and Intent of the FTVA

Known previously as the For the People Act (HR 1), the FTVA is a comprehensive bill presented to the United States Congress. Its predecessor, HR 1, was presented in an earlier session but failed to pass. The scaled-down FTVA focuses specifically on voting rights and campaign finance reforms, while retaining its mission to expand voting access and address systemic issues that undermine democratic processes.
